Black Action Society 50th Anniversary Fundraiser

Although their campaign has concluded, if you would still like to make a donation to support Black Action Society, you may always do so here.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

What is Black Action Society?

Since its inception in 1968, the Black Action Society (BAS) has been proudly serving the Black population of the University of Pittsburgh and our surrounding community.  BAS is committed to promoting the interests of Black and minority students in the area. This May, BAS will proudly celebrate our 50th anniversary! It has been an honor to serve the Pitt community and we look forward to continuing our proud tradition in the years to come.

For those of us involved with BAS, its culture is comparable to that of a close-knit family. This family is made up of selfless, talented, and compassionate students who are dedicated to improving the Black experience here at Pitt.

Black love is truly personified in each and every member as we support Black students on their journey through the challenging collegiate landscape. It is truly a blessing to come together with remarkable Black students from all walks of life and encourage each other as we strive for excellence.

Our Project:

Every year, BAS endeavors to connect with students and the Pittsburgh community through a variety of engaging programs.  We host inspiring speakers like Angela Davis and Spike Lee, sponsor poetry slams and talent shows, and facilitate service initiatives through partnerships with inspiring organizations like PittServes and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Great Pittsburgh.  Although we are very proud of our club’s accomplishments, we are always striving to do more.

In honor of our 50th anniversary, BAS is running a fundraising campaign to support our creative and innovative programming. With your help, we will have the ability to bring back amazing events like the Black Prestige Gala, a formal, festive celebration of the successes of black and minority students.

Furthermore, your assistance will enable us to pull off unique programming like renting out theaters for empowering movies like Black Panther, or funding initiatives like our project to end public school lunch debt. Please consider making a donation to the Black Action Society, and help us continue to serve the Black and minority communities at Pitt and in our Pittsburgh community at large.

How You Can Help:

We are incredibly grateful for all the support we have received since our inception and hope that you will consider supporting the legacy of Black Action Society with a gift today. Your tax-deductible donation will help us enrich the black experience at Pitt and help us celebrate a culture of inclusion.

We would also appreciate if you would share our link via email, word of mouth, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, or any other form of media to help us reach our goal. If you have any questions about the fundraiser or BAS in general, please contact our Financial Secretary Jordan Jones at jwj10@pitt.edu or our president Jade Remar at jar213@pitt.edu
