Although this campaign has concluded, if you would still like to make a donation to support the iSchool Inclusion Institute, you may always do so here.
Dear i3 Friends and Family,
Our annual crowdfunding campaign is live! https://engage.pitt.edu/i3program
If you are able, please consider donating to this year’s campaign. 100% of all funds raised go directly towards supporting our i3 Scholars. If you have already contributed to this year’s campaign, thank you very much! To help us keep the momentum going, please share our campaign website with your friends and colleagues. Ask them to help support i3 with a contribution of any amount. Every little bit helps!
2019 has been a fantastic year for i3 - in large part because of your support! Here are some highlights from the program’s 9th year:
2019 was a tremendous year, and we’re excited to build on this success to make 2020 our best year yet! Thank you so much for your continued support - i3 continues to thrive because of you, our i3 Family.
With deep appreciation and thanks,
Kayla Booth
i3 Director
Dear i3 Friends and Family,
I am thrilled to announce that our campaign was a success! We raised 112% of our goal -- surpassing our $4,000 target by over $500. A total of 59 people contributed to our campaign, demonstrating the impact this program has had on i3 Scholars, PhD Teaching Fellows, Faculty, Research Advisors, and other supporters. Thank you so much for all of your support – it is deeply appreciated and goes a long way in keeping i3 free and accessible to all future students.
Throughout this campaign season, I’ve been blown away by the number of emails I’ve received from faculty, alumni, and members of the i3 community asking how else they can continue to be involved. If you’ve had similar questions, please know that there is always room and opportunity to participate in i3 throughout the year by speaking at the summer institutes, mentoring i3 Scholars and Alumni, hosting a webinar for the i3 community, creating content featured on the i3 website, and much more. If interested, please contact me via kbooth@pitt.edu.
While the campaign may have come to a close, we have quite a bit to look forward to in the upcoming months. In March, i3 Scholars will be presenting eight peer-reviewed research projects at iConference in Washington D.C. and this June we will be welcoming our ninth cohort of i3 Scholars. The 2019 Summer Institute will take place from June 16th – July 13th -- we look forward to seeing you there!
Thank you again for your support!

Dear i3 Family and Friends,
We are seven weeks into our annual crowdfunding campaign and have reached 60% of our goal with 37 donors. Many thanks to all of you for supporting us and the mission of i3!
Remember to please share our campaign with your friends and family. If you are an i3 alum, share your story about your experience and ask the important people in your life for support. Every contribution helps us reach our goal.
This week’s campaign update will include a profile of one of our i3 Scholars, Rachel Ollivierre (2016 i3 Cohort). After Rachel graduated form the University of Pittsburgh with her bachelor's in Health Services, she attended Heinz College at Carnegie Mellon University for a Master's in Health Care Policy and Management. Rachel has focused her graduate studies on marrying analytics and health care and has recently accepted a Marketing Research and Analytics position at Merck. We’re extremely proud of her accomplishments and look forward to following along the next chapter in her journey.
Rachel is a great example of the talent that joins i3 and benefit from your support. Congratulations to her and her well-earned success!
Cheers,
Aderin Falana (2015 i3 Cohort)
Alumni Coordinator

Dear i3 Friends and Family,
We are officially 12 days into our fundraising campaign, and we have reached 39% of our goal! We are already up to 22 donors. Thank you so much to all of you for supporting our campaign and the mission of i3!
Please spread the word about our campaign to your friends, family, and network! If you are an i3 alumnus, please share your story about your experience with i3 and ask for support from those important to you. Remember, every dollar helps get us one step closer to our goal!
Also, with each week's campaign update we will include exciting news about i3. This year, 8 i3 research projects were accepted for publication at the upcoming iConference 2019 (Washington D.C.). When the program began in 2011, i3 Scholars worked on their research projects throughout the year and submitted their completed work to iConference. Now, nine years later, teams submit preliminary work just three months into the program and then submit their completed work after the full year. This means that many of our students graduate from their undergraduate programs with not one, but two peer-reviewed publications. To top this off, many i3 teams are submitting short and full papers, in addition to posters.
Here are the projects our i3 Scholars will be presenting this upcoming year:
1. "The Black at the End of the Rainbow: Online Discrimination Among LGBTQ African Americans," Madeline Poldruhi, Eric Rivera, Chelsea Ward, Eugene Nichols III, and Glen Jenkins. Poster by 2018 Team; Advised by Anthony Pinter.
2. "Understanding Landmarks in Spatial Information: Does Sentiment to Provide Enough Context?" Chelsea Sanchez, Herminio Bodon, Jalin Parker, Paige Franjione, and Zach Brinner. Poster by 2018 Team; Advised by Cristina Robles Bahm.
3. "Skins for Sale: Linking Player Identity, Representation, and Purchasing Practices," Zuaira Khan, Adanna Nedd, Alia Reza, Amy Castillo, and Sabrina Chu. Short Paper by 2018 Team; Advised by Dan Gardner.
4. "Defining Virtual Reality: Insights from Research and Practice," Desiree Scretching, Morelia Maravilla, Brian Murray, Alvie Stoddard, and Angela Cisneros. Poster by 2018 Team; Advised by Elissa Redmiles.
5. "Investigating Health Self-Management among Immigrant College Students with Depression," Jordan Dodson, Jenni Thang, Naika Saint Preux, Chris Frye, Linh Ly, Julissa Murrieta, Linda Sun, Courtney Cochancela. Short Paper collaboration between 2017 & 2018 Teams; Advised by Elizabeth Eikey.
6. "From Gridiron Gang to Game Plan: Impact of ICTs on Student Athlete Information Seeking Practices, Routines, and Long-Term Goals," Josue Figueroa, Jasmine Sullivan, and Vincent Grimaldi. Full Paper by 2017 Team; Advised by Bryan Dosono.
7. “Firefighters’ Strategies for Processing Spatial Information During Emergency Rescue Searches,” Tony Arias, Julia Cope, DeAndre Williams, and Vusumuzi Ngwazini. Short Paper by 2017 Team; Advised by Cristina Robles Bahm.
8. “Yes, You Can Still Touch This: Designing Interactive Media for Museum Spaces,” Jasmine Smith, Angie Cortes-Rivera, Kelly Gomez, and Jessica Davis. Poster by 2017 Team; Advised by Elaine Gomez.
Our i3 Scholars are consistently raising the bar and we can’t wait to see where their paths lead in 2019!
As always, thank you so much for your support!
