The University of Pittsburgh Women’s Rugby team is a competitive club that plays in the D1 Mason-Dixon Conference. In April of 2018, we took a trip to Atlanta, Georgia to compete in the National Championship tournament. Over 90% of the women on the team have never played rugby before college, but with much dedication and hard-work, we have been able to compete with some of the best teams in the country. We currently have over 30 women on our team roster.
We recently celebrated our 16th birthday, as the club was founded in 2002. We have grown significantly since our creation and we hope to continue to grow and improve as a whole.
With club sport status, we receive very limited funding from the university, and we have to support ourselves strictly through fundraising and donations. We are currently in desperate need of donations in order to fund our Spring 2019 season! We travel almost every single weekend between February and April to play our competitors: James Madison University, University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, and East Carolina University in Virginia! We currently pay out of pocket for each car and the amount of gas used, as well as lodging for all 30 teammates.
Every trip requires between four and six cars to be sent based on the number of girl’s going. As you can imagine this is very costly, while also paying for our 6-7 hotel rooms we reserve each time. Please help us reach our goal, any amount donated is appreciated!
