The University of Pittsburgh Chapter of Strong Women, Strong Girls (SWSG) is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization aimed to support the leadership and empowerment of pre-adolescent girls in the greater Pittsburgh area. We reach 12 different schools with 120 mentees and 80 college mentors. Each week, we volunteer to mentor girls in 3rd-5th grades with an innovative curriculum driven mentoring program oriented around a strong woman in society.
The goal is to expose our mentees to college and career opportunities while developing their leadership skills and building confidence along the way. As mentors, we learn from the girls during every session but we also have the opportunity to have mentors of our own. SWSG also matches college mentors to women working in the community so that we can develop stronger leadership skills ourselves and prepare for our future careers!
We are hosting our Annual 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run on Sunday, April 14nd, 2019. Our annual 5K and Fun Run is our largest fundraiser of the year and helps to raise the money that we need in order to make all the things we do at SWSG possible! The 5K brings together, mentors, mentees, friends, family, and members of the community for a morning of fun while raising money for a good cause!
Our organization relies heavily on donations and fundraising efforts. Please consider donating today to support the success and continuation of our chapter of SWSG and the young girls of the Pittsburgh area. If you choose to donate, your donations will go towards the cost of our 5K. Donations that exceed the cost of the 5K will go toward other expenses related to our organization such as buying snacks and materials for our mentoring sessions.
