Women’s Rugby Kicks Off in the ARU

Our Team:

The University of Pittsburgh Women’s Rugby team is a competitive club that plays D1 in the Allegheny Rugby Union. In April of 2018, we took a trip to Atlanta, Georgia to compete in the National Championship tournament. Over 90% of the women on the team have never played rugby before college, but with much dedication and hard-work, we have been able to compete with some of the best teams in the country. We currently have over 40 women on our team roster.

We recently celebrated our 17th birthday, as the club was founded in 2002.  We have grown significantly since our creation and we hope to continue to grow and improve as a whole.

Our Project:

With club sport status, we receive very limited funding from the University, and we have to support ourselves strictly through fundraising, dues, and donations. We are currently in desperate need of donations in order to fund our Spring 2020 season! This spring, we will be traveling to play at tournaments multiple times throughout the semester. We currently pay out of pocket for each car and the amount of gas used, as well as tournament fees and lodging for all teammates. 

Every trip requires between four and six cars to be sent based on the number of girl’s going. As you can imagine this is very costly, while also paying for our 6-7 hotel rooms we reserve each time. Please help us reach our goal, any amount donated is appreciated! Any funds raised past the costs for the spring 2020 season will be put toward future travel costs and general operating expenses.
