Doing our Part: Pitt's COVID-19 Response

FAQ

Is my gift tax deductible?

Yes! Your gift is tax deductible to the extend permitted by law. The University of Pittsburgh is a 501 (c) (3) organization.

Will I receive a tax receipt?

A tax receipt will be sent to you via email after you have made your donation online.

Is my gift eligible for a corporate match?

Please contact your employer’s human resource department to determine if they will match your gift and their process for matching gifts. For more information, visit our Matching Gifts Web page or contact Megan O’Neill Starmack by sending an e-mail to omegan@pitt.edu or by calling her at 412-624-5826.

How can I ensure that my EngagePitt™ donation is being used appropriately?

The University of Pittsburgh’s Division of Philanthropic & Alumni Engagement professional staff provide training and assistance to help ensure that faculty and students use funds according to donor intent. Should circumstances arise where the funds raised through EngagePitt™ cannot be applied to the stated purpose on the project page, the university may apply funds to an area most closely aligned to the stated purpose, as deemed appropriate. The university may also restrict the principal of current use funds to create perpetual funding sources in alignment with the purpose of the project.

What happens if an EngagePitt™ project does not reach its fundraising goal?

All funds raised toward the project will be applied to the initiative described on the page, whether or not the goal is met. If the project goal is not met within the scheduled time frame, contributions can still be made to the project. If the project goal is to create an endowed fund and the minimum required threshold to endow the fund is not met within the scheduled timeframe, the contributions may be, at the option of the university, designated as a current fund with all principal expended for the purpose of the project.

What happens if a project exceeds its fundraising goal?

Funds raised in excess of the project goal can be used for operating expenses or other initiatives that align with the project's mission.

Are there additional ways to support these projects or other areas of need at Pitt?
