This project has now concluded. Thank you for supporting the Pitt Climbing Team!
Who Are We?
We are the Pitt Climbing Team. A competitive club sport at the University of Pittsburgh and an official collegiate climbing team under USA climbing. Undergoing a virtual format for the past semester and a half, the team had to adjust to prepare for future successes. Weekly training plans, challenge of the week, and virtual workouts were a few of the ways we chose to stay engaged as a club sport.
Our team is made up of 57 eager climbers who are hopeful for a return to a competitive season. We want to continue to grow in our numbers which is why we started the RCC. This division of our team will allow us to foster potential in aspiring climbers who were not able to make the competitive team. Most importantly, this division will have the support and guidance of the competitive team members.
In 2018, a passionate group of students decided to bring competitive climbing to Pitt as a club team. Since that decision of those three now alumni, we were able to introduce the community to a sport that we all love and develop a team of strong, empowered climbers that compete at the collegiate level.
Our Project:
Our team was on track for Nationals in Colorado for the Spring of 2020. Airline tickets were purchased, hotels were booked, and snacks were packed. These plans quickly got cancelled due to Covid-19. As ambitious as we are, we were not going to let this hinder our chances for future competitions. We continued to train individually. We don’t plan on slowing down anytime soon, but we need your help in continuing this “send train.”
While we have firmly established our reputation as a successful club sport on campus, we are still a relatively new team. Therefore, our budget is not equipped to support our upcoming seasons. We will spend over $10,000 in facility access, equipment, and safety gear. These are all costs covered by individual team members, who are all students at the University of Pittsburgh. When competitions are able to safely resume, we want to make competitions free for all members. Without your help, this will not be true for future semesters.
How You Can Help:
Since competitions are not currently in operation, your donations will go towards preparations for upcoming semesters. Any donation that you can make will make a difference! You support will help us pay for:

Chalk is used while climbing to keep our hands dry so we're able to grip holds better.
A ATC belay device allows climbers to climb tall walls safely by keeping the slack out of their rope.
USA climbing is our sports governing body. Your $55 gift supports the cost of a collegiate membership, which is needed to compete in regionals and nationals.
Climbing shoes are different than regular shoes because the rubber helps us to grip onto the walls.
Each of our members are asked to pay $160/semester for membership to our practice facility, Ascend Pittsburgh.
Your gift of $450 will support the cost to register 10 team members for a local competition!
Your donation will FULLY fund the cost of a local competition (registration, travel, lodging, etc.) for 10 team members!
