HEINZ CHAPEL CHOIR - International Tour 2017

Although their EngagePitt™ campaign has concluded, if you would still like to make a donation to the Heinz Chapel Choir, you may always do so here.

For almost 80 years, the HEINZ CHAPEL CHOIR has presented a cappella music from a variety of time periods and cultural traditions and in a wealth of languages. The Choir’s home for the majority of its Pittsburgh performances is the Heinz Memorial Chapel on the University of Pittsburgh campus. The singers work to develop their musicianship, artistry, and sense of ensemble: all principles instilled in the choir by its original director, Theodore “Pop” Finney, and nurtured by each of his successors. The ensemble is currently under the direction of its tenth conductor, Dr. Susan Rice. The Heinz Chapel Choir has always been a home for students at the University of Pittsburgh who study a wide range of academics but share a love for choral music, a dedication to excellence, and a passion for reaching the hearts and souls of their audience.

The Heinz Chapel Choir’s 10 international tours over 25 years have allowed scores of student singers exposure to the art and culture of other countries, while evolving their own musical abilities through the intensive performing experience that can only be provided by such a tour.

In 2017, the Heinz Chapel Choir will embark on a 12-day educational/performance tour to England and Scotland. During our second day in Britain, we will sing in a workshop setting with English master choral pedagogue and conductor Stephen Layton, described as “one of the world’s finest interpreters of choral music.” Following that session, we’ll hear Mr. Layton lead the Choir of Trinity College, Cambridge in Evensong in the Trinity Chapel.

These two exceptional experiences have the power to inform the music we will make over the subsequent 10 days of our tour, as we sing six performances in churches and historic cathedrals, including Southwark Cathedral in London, Bristol Cathedral in Bristol, and St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh. Along the way, we’ll visit major British cities, historical sites, and landmarks.

Donate: Your contribution goes directly to the choir members in the form of a scholarship that reduces the amount each singer must contribute to the cost of the tour. And when financial considerations are a barrier to a singer’s participation, another hallowed HCC tradition is to never leave a singer behind for this reason. But we need your help to make that possible. We appreciate every contribution and recognize that we wouldn’t have these opportunities without your help. Your gift allows us to focus on singing and prepare to spread Pittsburgh’s music culture abroad.

Spread the word: We understand that not everyone is able to contribute financially, but you can always help us by sharing the link to this page through email, social media, or over a cup of coffee. If you know of an individual, corporation, or foundation that might like to support our campaign, please encourage them to visit our EngagePitt page.

We thank you for your generosity and support.

We have arrived! Your donation will help us reach the very first stop on our journey - the London Heathrow Airport!

80 years of HCC tradition has nothing on the 1000+ years of choral history we will get to learn about in the UK, but we're proud just the same! Your donation will help us continue to share the HCC tradition across the pond!

Queen Elizabeth II has traveled to the US five times during her 65-year reign. Maybe it's time we go visit her? Your donation will help us learn about the history of Windsor Castle first hand (and who knows, maybe even meet the Queen!!).

School's out for summer (or at least it will be in May!), but you can't keep us away from college forever! Your donation will help us get to Trinity College Chapel for the amazing opportunity to work with Stephen Layton and a chance to attend Evensong, sung by the Choir of Trinity College.

Though he's not Prince Harry, we're still swooning over the opportunity to sing in a workshop setting for world-class musician and conductor Stephen Layton! Your donation will help build our excitement as we prepare to learn from one of Britain's very best!

From Pittsburgh's own Hogwarts (the Cathedral of Learning!) to the real home of Harry Potter! Your donation will help give us the opportunity to perform in the incredible Durham Cathedral, a filming site of the first two Harry Potter movies!

Edinburgh Castle and St. Giles Cathedral dominate the beautiful skyline of Edinburgh, Scotland - the last stop on our tour. Your donation will help us become the "Lords and Ladies" of the Heinz Chapel Choir as we perform our last concert of HCC's 2017 International Tour!
