Happy Holidays! Tis the season of giving!
Welcome to our EngagePitt(tm) Campaign! We are the University of Pittsburgh Doctor of Physical Therapy Class of April 2023 and we are planning to attend the American Physical Therapy Association’s annual Combined Sections Meeting (CSM) in San Antonio, Texas February 2nd-5th. Since we are going off to our full-time terminal clinicals next year, this may be the only opportunity for some of us to attend this conference as students. The cost of attendance and travel can be a challenge, but with your help, our students will get the opportunity to attend!
Our class contains students from all over the country, from a variety of backgrounds, with an array of interests including orthopedics, sports, neuro, pelvic floor, pediatrics, and geriatrics! Being students in the #1 ranked DPT program in the country, you can imagine that our cohort is passionate and eager to learn! Despite the initial challenges associated with beginning graduate school in a pandemic, our class has been active in community engagement, research, and APTA events since our very first semester! You can find us providing Pro-Bono services at the Birmingham Free Clinic in the Southside, leading strength and conditioning sessions with the Mighty Pens Adaptive Sled Hockey Team, and participating in a variety of community health initiatives at the Homewood Community Engagement Center! Our class is enthusiastic about the profession and are excited to further our knowledge by attending CSM 2022!
CSM is a national conference hosted by the American Physical Therapy Association that attracts 12,000-16,000 students and clinicians every year. CSM offers a wide variety of opportunities for attendees including 100+ presentations by the most renowned clinicians and researchers in the field, research poster symposiums, and networking opportunities! As a student, attending CSM is an incredibly valuable opportunity to learn the most up-to-date information in clinical practice to apply to our patients! After CSM, our class will be in clinicals every semester until we graduate. The information and knowledge we gain at CSM will be invaluable to us, both in our clinical experiences and in our future practice.
We greatly appreciate your contributions! $290 is the early bird rate for CSM registration and the cost goes up to $320 for those who were unable to register before the early bird deadline. Along with the price of registration, students are also responsible for travel and lodging. In our 2nd year class, we have 15 students (and counting!) planning to attend thus far. We would like to offset the cost of early-bird registration for each student. Money raised over our $5,000 goal will go towards the registration fees of 1st year students who will be attending as well. Any funds raised above that will go toward travel and lodging expenses for all students ($500+ per student).
You can stay up to date on our campaign success and our journey to CSM on this page and other Pitt PT social media! Find us on Facebook @University of Pittsburgh Physical Therapy and on Instagram @pitt_pt and @pittpt_students!!
Thank you for supporting our ability to become the best clinicians we can be and H2P!!
