Support the Peggie Miller Memorial Fund

We are raising funds towards the establishment of The Peggie Miller Memorial Fund.  Established by the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid, colleagues, family and friends, this endowed fund will honor her memory forever as someone who was dedicated to helping others.

Peggie’s affinity to help others and her kindness is by far her greatest legacy. Peggie was the kind of person that saw potential within everyone and worked tirelessly for/with those around her. She made you a better person simply by being in her presence and she had a way of making you feel like you were the only person in the room with her unconditional love and support. She will live on in the hearts of those she loved through the impact she had on each and every one of them and she will be forever remembered as the beautiful, kind, and selfless woman that she was.

Background

Peggie spent her entire life as a "Pittsburgher." She was born at Mercy Hospital and was the 10th out of 11 children. She grew up in Cranberry and graduated from Seneca Valley High School and from the University of Pittsburgh in 1988 with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications and a candidate for a Master's of Law Studies degree at the University of Pittsburgh.   She eventually moved to Oakdale later in life with her loving husband (Marvin) and children (Michael and Maura). Peggie had many passions first and foremost being her children and grandson (William Flynn), going to the casino, listening to music, watching the Hallmark channel, gardening, and anything Pitt related.

Hail to Pitt!
Peggie served the University of Pittsburgh for 33+ years in various jobs and leadership roles with the last nine years as Director of Budget and Human Resources for the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid (OAFA). Pitt achieved unprecedented undergraduate enrollment success during her tenure. The OAFA team credits that success in part on the extraordinary work that Peggie did, day in and day out, to support the OAFA ecosystem and the University's enrollment goals.

AMAZING PITT FACT – Peggie’s late father. John F. Miller Jr. graduated from Pitt, as did ALL ELEVEN CHILDREN!  Blue and gold were part of her soul...right to the very end, Peggie cheered for Pitt, with everyone holding hands and singing Sweet Caroline before she passed.

The Peggie Miller Memorial Fund

The best way to honor Peggie and everything she stood for and believed in is to create a permanent endowed fund.  We are excited to announce the creation of the Peggie Miller Memorial Fund with the goal of raising a minimum of $25,000.  Reaching that goal will ensure that annually, in perpetuity, at least two undergraduate students with financial need from the Pittsburgh area will receive a $500 book award.  Any amount over the $25,000 will be used to create additional book awards and help additional undergraduate students.  A lead gift of $5,000 has been given to help forge ahead in meeting the goal!
