The Season of GIVING Is Upon Us!
Welcome to our fundraising campaign! We are the University of Pittsburgh Doctor of Physical Therapy Class of December 2023, and we are planning to attend the American Physical Therapy Association’s annual Combined Sections Meeting (CSM) in San Diego, California February 23-25, 2023. Since we are going off to our full-time terminal clinicals this year, this may be the only opportunity for some of us to attend this conference as students. The cost of attendance and travel can be a challenge, but with your help, our students will get the opportunity to attend!
About Us
Our class contains students from all over the country, from a variety of backgrounds, with an array of interests including orthopedics, sports, neuro, pelvic floor, pediatrics, and geriatrics! We are the first students to be a part of Pitt’s residential and hybrid 7-semester program! This has allowed Pitt DPT to expand and have both remote and on-campus learning opportunities. Being students in the #1 ranked DPT program in the country, you can imagine that our cohort is passionate and eager to learn! Despite the initial challenges associated with beginning graduate school, our class has been active in community engagement, research, and APTA events since our first semester! You can find us providing pro bono services at the Birmingham Free Clinic in the Southside, leading strength and conditioning sessions with the Mighty Pens Adaptive Sled Hockey Team and participating in a variety of community health initiatives at the Homewood Community Engagement Center! Our class is enthusiastic about the profession and we are excited to further our knowledge by attending CSM 2023!
About CSM
Combined Sections Meeting, CSM, is a national conference hosted by the American Physical Therapy Association that attracts around 15,000 students and clinicians every year. CSM offers a wide variety of opportunities for attendees including 100+ presentations by the most renowned clinicians and researchers in the field, research poster symposiums, and networking opportunities! As a student, attending CSM is an incredibly valuable opportunity to learn the most up-to-date information in clinical practice to apply to our patients! After CSM, our class will be in clinicals every semester until we graduate. The information and knowledge we gain at CSM will be invaluable to us, both in our clinical experiences and in our future practice.
How You Can Help
Your contributions are greatly appreciated! The early-bird rate for student APTA members for CSM is $290. The registration cost goes up to $320 for those who were unable to register before the early bird deadline. Along with the price of registration, students are also responsible for travel and lodging. This year is especially financially taxing as the conference is all the way in San Diego, California. With the money raised, we would like to at least be able to offset the cost of the early-bird registration fee for each student planning to attend. Money raised over our $5,000 goal would be able to cover the cost of travel and lodging for attending students ($500+ per student).
You can stay up to date on our campaign success and our journey to CSM on this page and other Pitt PT social media! Find us on Facebook @University of Pittsburgh Physical Therapy and on Instagram @pitt_pt and @pittpt_students!! We appreciate you taking the time to learn about us and our fundraiser! Thank you for helping us become the best clinicians we can be! Remember, you can’t spell Pitt without PT!
