Race to Germany! Help the Pitt Formula SAE Team Compete in Germany
Who are we?
Panther Racing competes in Formula SAE, the most prominent collegiate engineering competition series in the world. Formula SAE promotes careers and excellence in engineering as it encompasses all aspects of the automotive industry including research, design, manufacturing, testing, developing, marketing, managing and financing. Formula SAE takes students out of the classroom and allows them to apply textbook theories to real world experiences. Another part of the competition is to market ourselves and help make our team world class. Our primary competition is in Michigan on May 13th against 120 of the best engineering schools in the country and world. This year though, we successfully registered for the Formula Student Germany event, the most prestigous of all Formula Student events in the world.
Our team consists of 35+ of the brightest and most dedicated students Pitt has to offer - mostly engineering and business majors - who together commit thousands of hours 1) designing the car in a 3D CAD software called SolidWorks, 2) performing structural anaysis, 3) fabricating, preparing and assembling compenents using mill and lathe operations, TIG welding, carbon fiber layups for wings and bodywork, engine dynomometer tuning, 4) preparing for the competition events including autocross race, endurance race, skidpad, acceleration, design report, business presentation and cost report.

What is our project?
Our team builds a racecar from scratch on a yearly basis requiring large amounts of raw materials such as metal stock, tubing, carbon fiber as well as electronics, engine parts and specialized tooling. There is always a great need for additional resources to purchase these items. In addition, our team has matured tremendously over the past 3 years and is now prepared to represent Pitt at more than one competition this year. We are registered for Formula Student Germany, a FSAE event taking place July 28th 2015 against the best schools in Europe such as Stuttgart University, Technical University Graz and University of Munich, plus US teams like Auburn, California Polytechnic, Akron and Michigan.
What is our goal?
Our goal is to raise $5,000 or more to help pay to ship the car to Germany. The cheapest shipping option we found is $6,000 for a spot in an oceanliner sea container from a port in New Jersey to Hamburg. Excess donations will go toward helping to fund team member travel expenses, and transportation of the car within Germany.
Thanks for all your help and support!!!
At $10 you are helping us toward our goal! Thank you!
