Support Our Sound as we travel to Belgium this fall to perform for the Waregem Flanders Fields Commemorative Weekend, where we will be one of three choirs in the WORLD performing in Flanders Fields!

Pitt Men's Glee Club

The Pitt Men's Glee Club is the oldest non-athletic organization on campus, founded in 1890. A group of more than 50 members, we have traveled on international tours every three years since 2007 under director Richard Teaster, including our most recent international tour to Italy for our 125th anniversary in 2015.

Our Project:

This year, in October of 2017, we have been invited by the government of West Flanders in Belgium to perform at the Waregem Flanders Fields Commemorative Weekend, commemorating the 100th anniversary of a battle in Flanders Fields. This event is part of the GoneWest: Reflections on the Great War initiative by the government of West Flanders, with 'West' used as an allegory for following the setting sun, as many fallen soldiers who fought in Belgium were carried West across the fields after each battle was done.

We will be the only American choir at this event and one of four choirs in the world performing. This will be the group's second time in Belgium, the first time being part of a larger tour to Belgium, France and the Netherlands in 2013. Our reportoire will include Ralph Vaughn Williams' Dona Nobis Pacem and 5 gospel songs from A Child of Our Time by Michael Tippet. Three others choirs will be performing with us: a women's choir form Ghent, a mixed choir from Waregem, Belgium, and a mixed choir from Germany.

Our Goal:

Because of the unusual timing of the ceremony, we will only be spending five (5) days across the pond, and will need your help and support to ensure that all members who are able to go will perform with us.

With your help, we hope to lower the cost of the tour for all members.  We will have a series of concerts across Belgium and the Netherlands, culminating in our performance in Flanders Fields. Your contribution will lower the cost for each member who will attend and will help provide the experience of a lifetime and immense recognition for our organization and our University.

We thank you for the support of your donation. We hope to make the university and our nation proud!
