Our Team
Pitt Club Tennis was founded in 2006, making this September our 19th anniversary. Our 35-member co-ed team enjoys practicing several days a week, all year round, at Alpha Tennis and Fitness in Harmar Township. In both the fall and spring semesters, our team competes in USTA Tennis on Campus tournaments all over the East Coast (primarily in the Middle States Section).
In the past year, our team has competed at some of Tennis on Campus' biggest tournaments, including tournaments in Toledo, OH, The Ohio State University, and Hershey, PA. We also hosted our own tournament in the fall, the Panther Open, located at Schenley Park.
Our Project
As anyone who participated on the Pitt Club Tennis team can attest that tournaments of this magnitude, or any travel tournaments, are unique and unbelievable experiences. We meet new people, play competitive tennis, and most importantly, have loads of fun with each other! We would love nothing more than to continue to play again.
Although we truly need as much support as possible to be able to travel to tournaments, we do quite a bit of fundraising as a team throughout the academic year. We had the opportunity to hold our fifth annual Pitt Panther Open which gave players in the Pitt community a chance to compete and try out for the team!
We have also fundraised by teaming up with local restaurants in Pittsburgh, as well as hosting events such as trivia night, a dodgeball tournament, etc. These fundraisers (in addition to team dues) have brought in enough money to finance most of our regular season expenses. That being said, any support means the absolute world to us and we value contributions greatly.
Final Thoughts
Our team is excited to represent the University of Pittsburgh this coming year at various Tennis on Campus Tournaments as well as tournaments hosted by other colleges and universities. Any amount of help to reach this goal is very much appreciated! Together, we can show everyone what Pitt Club Tennis is made of! Hail to Pitt!
