Pitt Club Tennis Goes to Nationals!

Although their campaign has concluded, if you would still like to make a donation to support Pitt Club Tennis, you may always do so here.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Pitt Club Tennis has earned a spot at nationals for only the third time in our club's history, and we need your support to get there!

About Our Team:

Pitt Club Tennis was founded in 2006, marking this September as the 11th anniversary of our organization.  Our 28 member co-ed team enjoys practicing several days a week all year round at The Club Sport & Health tennis club in Monroeville.  In both the fall and spring semesters our team competes in USTA Tennis on Campus tournaments all over the East coast (and primarily in the Middle States Section). By the end of this semester, the 2016-2017 Pitt Club Tennis team will have played in a whopping 55 matches!

(Picture taken at the 2016 Pitt dual-surface invitational: a tournament played on both hard court and red clay! - Not all team members shown above)

In the past year, our team had some notable finishes at tennis on campus tournaments, including placing 7th at the fall invitational (Hilton Head Island, SC) and 28th in the country at the 2016 national championships (Cary, NC). Additionally, we won the Hershey Winter Invitational, finished runner-up at the Pittsburgh Dual-Surface Invitational, and placed 6th in the Battle of the Sections (Bethany Beach, DE).

While all of these great finishes demonstrate the depth and consistency of our team, the tournament which qualified our team for the 2017 Tennis on Campus Nationals was the Fall 2016 sectionals (Princeton, NJ). In that tournament, we finished 3rd of 32 teams! Although we were hoping for a win at sectionals, the tough semifinal loss we suffered has us eager to prove ourselves once again at nationals in April!

About Nationals:

This year, the '2017 Tennis on Campus National Championships' are played in Orlando, Florida form April 13-15th. Sixty-four teams from across the country will travel to compete at the brand new home of American tennis, the USTA national campus. Attending nationals last year allowed us the opportunity to play against many teams from around the country, including Stony Brook University, University of Colorado-Boulder, University of Virginia, Arizona State University, University of Houston, Georgia College, and Northwestern University.

As anyone on the 2016 nationals team will attest, attending the TOC championships is a unique and unbelievable experience. We were able to meet new people, play competitive tennis, and most importantly, have loads of fun! We would love nothing more than to do it again!

The Funds (Our Efforts)

Although we truly need as much support as possible to be able to travel to Orlando, we have done our fair share of fundraising as team throughout the academic year. We kicked off the year with our second annual Pitt Club Tennis Fundraising Tournament! This gave the students at Pitt a unique opportunity to play intramural tennis in a recreational setting at the nearby courts in Schenley Park.

We have also fund-raised by teaming with local restaurants in Pittsburgh, as well as hosting events such as Dodgeball tournaments. These fundraisers (in addition to team dues) have brought in enough money to finance most of our regular season expenses. We are now looking to fundraise for our largest expense to date, nationals in Orlando, FL.

Here's where the EngagePitt™ funds will go:

$250: Registration

$2400: Hotel Rooms for the team

$2480: Transportation (including flights and rental cars)

$370: Uniforms

$5500: TOTAL

Any funds we raise in excess of our goal will go towards general season costs such as court time, tennis balls, etc.

Final Thoughts:

Our team is excited to represent the University of Pittsburgh this year in the Tennis on Campus National championships. Any amount of help to reach this goal is very much appreciated. Together we can show everyone what Pitt is made of! Hail to Pitt!
