The 2015 Inaugural National Security Symposium is a student-driven event aiming to engage local community members, students, and professionals on the topics of media, democracy and citizenship. Designed, hosted, and planned by students at the University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School for Public and International Affairs (GSPIA), the symposium will offer a platform to generate discussion around civic engagement and the political and social issues shaping the world today.
The symposium will be one full day with two main components, an all-student panel in the morning and an expert panel in the afternoon. The student-led discussion will provide an opportunity to begin the conversation and set the stage for the afternoon panel. Following lunch, a panel of experts will navigate questions on the role of media in shaping the public perspective and the relationship between national security and constitutional rights. Panelists will come from a range of fields including, academia, journalism, and law. This conversation will provide the platform for participants, and the audience, to consider dynamic opinions on these issues.

The first annual GSPIA National Security Symposium will be the first student-led symposium of its kind. The symposium has grown out of the idea that current students, along with community members are often times influenced by media bias when learning about pressing issue on national security and constitutional rights. Helping fund the first annual GSPIA symposium will allow for future students to continue creating a platform by which important issues can be discussed.
Your donation will help an ambitious group of current GSPIA students successfully implement this event. Funds will go towards:
