SHPE changes lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support and development.

Our Chapter
Pitt SHPE is dedicated to the development of Hispanic students in the Swanson School of Engineering, we strive to create a positive impact on the Greater Pittsburgh Area through community involvement. In this capacity we hope to fulfill the SHPE National Mission and Vision.
During the year, we have different speakers help our students professional development, host different study groups to improve grades, and participate in outreach programs to help the Pittsburgh community. We also host big events where we get our schools student body interested in participating in Hispanic culture.
SHPE National Conference - Kansas City 2017
What is it?
Each year, SHPE hosts a National Conference. it is a five-day event where workshops, competitions, and celebrations are hosted. These events help students build their professional networks, strengthen their resumes, and learn tips from other professionals about succeeding in industry.
At the end, there is a career fair where hundreds of companies participate. Some include big names like Toyota, Google, and GM. This career fair gives our students an opportunity to earn internships from companies that don’t come to Pitt’s career and co-op fair.
This is an amazing opportunity for our students!
Getting There
In order to attend the conference, students would usually have to pay the registration fee, hotels, and travel to the conference site. The cost breakdown for a student planning to attend this year's conference looks roughly like this:

How You Can Help:
Since the conference is in Kansas City this year and travel will be more expensive than usual, the club plans to help participants by paying for their airfare. This way, students will only have to cover their registration expenses.
This is where you, our amazing friends, family, and supporters, come in. With your help, Pitt SHPE members will be able to experience all the unique professional development opportunities that this conference offers. Every $350 donated means another SHPE member's airfare fees are covered. Any funds raised past our goal will be applied to assist our students with conference registration fees, and after that the general club expenses.

Start with the basics! Not only is this Brazilian snack a delicious baked cheese roll, the donation will help us cover about 10% of the airfare fees for students.
Alfajores are popular cookies found among different countries in South America, including Peru and Argentina. These delicious cookies are so sweet, just like you! This helps cover over 15% of the airfares fees.
Just like this tasty deep fried plaintian, you're so sweet! Your donation will help us pay for over 30% of a student's airfare fees.
Tamal is a very common dish; it's a sweet cornbread with different fillings inside. It's super nice, just like you! Thanks to your great donation, we can pay for one student's airfare fees!
Taco's are awesome. With the different versions throughout Latin America, it's a new experience each time. Thanks to your generous donation, we are able to have a different kind of new experience! This lets us cover about 1.5 student's airfare fees.
A huge meal stuffed into a tiny dough dumpling is what an Empanada is. Its cute but super tasty. Your generous donation will let us send two students to the SHPE National Conference. Thank you!
