And that’s a wrap on the first annual Kappa Delta Pi 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run!
My name is Katie Spence and I am the Vice President of Kappa Delta Pi. Over the past seven months, our members have been working tirelessly to make this 5K possible and on Sunday we finally were able to accomplish our goal!
The weather on the morning of the 5K was rainy, but the weather channel informed us that the storms would clear up around 7:00. Our members went to Schenley Park to set up water stations, mark the course, and work on their assigned jobs. Our 5K went off without a hitch, and then the storms picked up again. Unfortunately, due to the weather, we were unable to hold the 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk.
Despite the crazy weather, the 5k and raffle were a huge success! Special congratulations to our first place winners: For the men, Ian P. came in first with a time of 20:26 and for the women, Jaclyn A. came in first with a time of 22:58.
Kappa Delta Pi wanted to take a minute to thank everyone who made this whole thing such a success. We appreciate every single one of you!
Lastly, a special shout out goes to our fundraising chair, Alex Keller. Alex has worked so incredibly hard over the past seven months to make this all possible. Without her, the 5K would have just been an idea that was thrown around at our chapter meetings. You rock, Alex!
I am so excited to see what is ahead for this event. Thank you all again for everything you have done to support us. We could not have done it without YOU!
Hi All!
I’m so thrilled to write this update because we have exceeded our goal of $2,200 which will fully fund our race! The funds raised over our projected 5K budget will go toward hosting community service projects and our Literacy Alive! Initiative in February. This year for Literacy Alive!, we will be holding slam poetry workshops and a performance for the 5th grade students at Faison Elementary.
Throughout my years as a member of KDP, I’ve witnessed the growth of a society of future educators dedicated not only to becoming exemplary teachers, but also to ensuring that all children in the Pittsburgh area are given every opportunity necessary for success. Our chapter is so appreciative of your generous donations to support us and A+ Schools, which advocates for education excellence and equity in Pittsburgh Public Schools.
As our chapter’s president, I have been working closely with our outstanding executive board and committee chairs to plan and present events, such as our 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run. Our organization has flourished because of their dedication, as well as the efforts of all of our wonderful chapter members. I am proud and honored to represent such a passionate and united group committed to advocating for high-quality education for all.
I cannot thank you enough for your generous donations and support of education in Pittsburgh. We would love to celebrate with you at our race on Sunday, November 5th at the Anderson Shelter in Schenley Park! More details about the race can be found at kdppitt.wixsite.com/kdpitt/5k.
With appreciation,
Annette Kukunas
Hello everyone!
My name is Savannah Garber and I serve as the Treasurer for KDP. I am a Senior in the CASE program and hope to teach at an elementary school after graduating. I joined KDP my Freshmen year because I wanted the opportunity to get to know other people in the field of education, volunteer with young kids, and gain professional development experience. I have really enjoyed my last two years in KDP and am super excited about our 5K event this year. KDP is still a relatively new club on campus and we have grown larger and larger each year. The 5K and 1-mile fun run will be our biggest event thus far so thank you so much for donating.
I am so happy to announce that we have officially hit our fundraising goal of $1,500!!! Thank you so much to everyone who has donated. This event would not be possible without your support! We will now be upping our Fundraising Goal to $2,200. This amount is the total amount needed to fund the entire 5K. With the help of these additional funds, we will no longer need to use Kappa Delta Pi’s Chapter money for the 5K and can save those funds for our other endeavors throughout the year (Volunteer Events, Literacy Alive! Annual Event, etc.).
The more we raise, the more money that we can potentially donate to A+ Schools. We really appreciate all your support and hope to see you there on November 5th.
We are only a little over a week into our campaign and we could not be more excited to say that we are already halfway to our goal of $1,500! We are so grateful for all of the support thus far.
BUT, we still have almost 3 weeks left until the campaign ends on October 20th. That means that we still are looking for your help! Anything and everything helps as we attempt to put on the best 5k race and 1 mile fun run possible to benefit A+ schools. Even just sharing this page would be an immense help in getting us to our goal.
Thank you so much for your consideration! All of us at Kappa Delta Pi could not be more appreciative.
Hello everyone!
Our first week of the campaign has been awesome! We have already crossed the 30 percent threshold. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far and helped us spread the word. At this rate, we will reach our goal in no time. PLEASE continue to spread our message to friends and family so that we can organize an amazing race for our community.
Our campaign page will close on October 20th, so let your friends and family know about our campaign now so that we can continue to get closer to our goal. Any donation is greatly appreciated!
From all of us here at Kappa Delta Pi, Thanks Again!
We’ve all been one. Even if you’re not in the classroom anymore, never stop exploring new things. Learning is fun! Thanks for the contribution!
May your coffee be strong and your lesson plans be stronger. Thanks for the donation you rock star, you.
You have the ultimate job of learning everyone’s names. You’re basically a celebrity in the hallways. Don’t forget to wave at those cute kindergartners, and of course, donate to our 5k.
You have the power to call snow days, and ALSO to donate money to our 5k. Let it snow.
With your donation, you can help us fund the police officer and EMT so we can keep our event safe!
With your donation, we'll be able to provide all our runners with an awesome race day t-shirt!
