WE DID IT!

May 04, 2018

Dear Donors,

We did it! We could not have accomplished this without the support of each and every donor. Through our EngagePitt campaign, we reached and exceeded our goal. After considering costs of the 5K, we raised $3,530 to provide for our mentees! Your donation will support our chapter of Strong Women Strong Girls for the upcoming academic year. We will be able to provide transportation for our mentors as well as essential supplies and snacks for our mentees.

Our 5th annual 5K was an incredible success! We had over 55 runners and walkers and over 40 SWSG volunteers. We truly couldn’t have done this without you.

Thank you from all of us at the Pitt Chapter of Strong Women Strong Girls!

We Reached Our Goal... YET AGAIN!

April 18, 2018

With one day left in our fundraising campaign, we want to thank you all for your immense support. Thanks to you, we have surpassed our goal of $3,250. While the original cost of the race has been covered, the extra funds will contribute to supplies, snacks, transportation, and the activities we coordinate for the girls. Since this program is run with zero cost to our mentees, every dollar contributed helps us provide our young mentees with a fun and educational experience, inspiring them to work hard and dedicate themselves to academics.

Our annual 5K race is only a few days away! Please join us this Sunday, April 22, 2018 at the Bartlett Playground in Schenley Plaza to participate in the event or meet our amazing mentors/mentees. Rain or shine, the race will be on!

Last year’s race was definitely one for the books. We had an awesome turnout and individuals of all ages came to support the organization. We hope to make it even better this year! Whether you can come in person or are there in spirit, the support from donors, families, and organizations around Pitt has been immeasurable. From all of us at Strong Women Strong Girls: THANK YOU!!

We are strong. We are proud.

April 13, 2018

Thank you for all your support! We have received donations from over 44 different donors. There are only six days left to donate! Please continue to spread the word, so we can reach our new goal to raise $3250.

On Wednesday, April 11th, we hosted our first ever Strong Awards to recognize our outstanding mentors and executive board. As a graduating senior, it was a sentimental moment reminiscing on all of my memories with SWSG over the past three years.

One of my best memories was making the video displayed on our EngagePitt campaign. I asked my mentees, “What do you love most about SWSG?” Their genuine and thoughtful responses were a reminder of why SWSG exists and why it is a valuable program for young girls. Our mentees learn so much from us mentors, but at the same time, we learn from them.

We Reached Our Goal... AGAIN!

April 04, 2018

Hi Donors!

Thank you so much for all of your support! Thanks to you, we have reached and surpassed our goal of $2500 and are now raising our goal to $3250! These additional donations will go straight to our mentoring program and will provide the program with healthy snacks, art supplies, and transportation for our mentors.

When I attended my first Strong Women Strong Girls meeting, I didn’t know what to expect. Looking back, I am so glad I joined. Every Friday, I go to the Boys and Girls Club in Shadyside and spend an hour and a half with the girls. We always start with “Peaks and Valleys,” an activity where we talk about the highs and lows of our weeks. I love hearing about what’s going on in the mentees’ lives and really getting to know them. We also play games, read a biography of a strong woman, journal, and of course, eat a snack.

So much of this wouldn’t be possible without fundraising. It’s people like our wonderful donors that give us the opportunity to do this every week. Last week, we talked about the importance of self, and the girls drew self portraits. Here is a picture of two mentees with their portraits!

SWSG 2nd Annual Field Trip!

March 29, 2018

Hello Donors!

We want to thank you for your continued support of Strong Women, Strong Girls. This week, we want to update you on our 2nd annual field trip to Pitt’s campus that took place on Sunday, March 25th. With the help from our mentors, campus organizations, Pitt faculty, and volunteers from the community, we were able to bring 44 mentees to campus and show them what it’s like to be a student at Pitt!

Our mentees participated in a variety of activities and events, including a campus tour from our Pitt Pathfinders, workshops put on by different campus organizations, a career fair run by our Pitt advisors, and lunch with athletes. A workshop put on by Pitt’s art club ARTificial taught the girls how to screen print different designs. As you can see, they really loved it!

Thank you again for your continued support,

Lauren

Stronger Thanks to You!

March 22, 2018

Dear Donors,

Thanks to your generous donations, we reached our goal in one week! We are so humbled by your kindness and cannot thank you enough for your generosity. The $1600 we have raised covers the cost of the 5K, but we are excited to announce that we are raising our goal to $2500. All additional donations will benefit SWSG directly by providing transportation for mentors, buying supplies for the mentees, and hosting a field trip to Pitt for the mentees.

Strong Women Strong Girls is funded completely through the generosity of people like you, and we want to ensure that next year is as successful as previous years. We are only a month away from our 5K, and we hope to persist with this amazing success!

We hope you continue to spread the word about our mission here at SWSG! Each week at mentoring sessions, we highlight a strong female community member who encapsulates leadership qualities. This week in SWSG, our mentees learned about caring with Marita Garrett. Marita Garrett is the first African-American female mayor of Wilkinsburg and the host of a podcast, Shattered Glass, that profiles extraordinary women in Pittsburgh. Below is a picture of our mentees showing off bracelets they made at mentoring.

From all of us here at SWSG, Thank you!
