Although their campaign has concluded, if you would still like to make a donation to support Active Minds, you may always do so here.
The University of Pittsburgh chapter of Active Minds is a student organization dedicated to raising mental health awareness among college students. In past years, Pitt Active Minds was able to bring events to campus such as the speaker “Guardian of the Golden Gate Bridge” Kevin Briggs, Active Minds speakers bureau member David Romano, and workshops such as Movies for Mental Health. Our most recent event includes our Send Silence Packing exhibit this September, where over 1,000 backpacks were placed on the Cathedral of Learning Lawn, many the original backpacks of students that have died by suicide along with their stories written by family and friends.
Events such as these increase campus awareness surrounding mental health and suicide prevention as an effort to positively change campus culture. Many attendees express that they are more comfortable and encouraged to seek mental health services as a result of our events, and feel empowered by the messages of hope and recovery that we promote. This October we are collaborating with the Student Government Board to celebrate Mental Health Month on campus, including hosting a student art gallery, peer education workshops, and film screenings.
This Spring, we hope to bring another impactful mental health event to campus. However, the type and scale of the event depends on our budget! In any of our possible events, we hope to bring a message of optimism, compassion, and resilience. Some possible events and speakers that we can bring to our campus include:
With your help, Pitt Active Minds will be able to bring an incredibly impactful speaker to help destigmatize mental health issues and make more people aware of resources available to them.
Any additional funds raised beyond our workshop or speaker costs will help cover general club expenses, future events or mental health movie screenings, and support for our members to attend the Active Minds national conference.
We are incredibly grateful for your support and look forward to continuing to pursue our goal of creating a more supportive and de-stigmatized campus environment.
Sincerely,
Pitt Active Minds
