Our Crowdfunding Groups
We are the Student Veterans of America – University of Pittsburgh Chapter, or Pitt Vets! We are a networking and supportive community for student veterans here at the University of Pittsburgh. We work to develop programming, community, and connection to those who have served in any of the branches of the United States Military to include the US Army, US Marines, US Navy, US Air Force and US Coast Guard. Our membership is open to all those who have served and are on campus whether or not they utilize the GI Bill or other benefits to attend university.
While veterans make up a small percentage of the overall population we also make up a small percent of the students on campus here at the University of Pittsburgh. We are working to not only increase awareness but find opportunities for those of us who have served to continue to serve here in Pittsburgh. Part of that is through community service, such as our partnership with the Jerome Bettis Bus Stops Here Foundation as well as other local non-profits, in addition to those veterans who are alumni as well as faculty and staff. Our goal is to introduce our Pitt community to the benefits of having veterans on campus and support one another through this transition.
We are growing our chapter, and with that we have the opportunity to send some of our members to the Student Veterans of America national conference in Los Angeles in 2020. This conference not only connects us with other student veterans all across the United States but provides opportunities for us to network with major corporations for career connections. There are opportunities for us to grow as leaders in our community and continue to serve our Pitt community when we return. While we are growing exponentially, we also recognize we need to invest in our membership to continue to grow and help members gain the tools to be even more successful when they transition out of university life. Our current budget does not allow for the level of engagement that we’d like to provide our membership.
We will spend over $3,000 in travel and conference registration. We hope with your contribution that we can raise the money to send our student veterans to this conference and connect with other veterans that wish to foster a strong veteran community on campus.
