The University of Pittsburgh’s Health Information Management (HIM) programs boasts an undergrad employment rate of over 90%. HIM is a field that deals in the intersection of healthcare, information technology and business management. The program is ranked 8th in the nation and the 2017 Annual Program Report (APAR) from CAHIIM illustrated that Pitt’s HIM graduates have a 100% employer satisfaction rating. This is due to the four full semester long internships incorporated into the class curriculum, giving the students real world proficiencies that employers are looking for in graduates. In addition to the unique clinicals that the HIM students experience, they are also well prepared to sit for the RHIA exam that exemplifies one’s expertise as an HIM professional.
We, the HIM students, would like the opportunity to attend one of the largest health information and information technology conferences in the nation. The 2018 AHIMA Convention and Exhibit is taking place in Miami, Florida and will have 4,000 healthcare leaders and professionals there to discuss topics and network with students. It would be an extremely valuable experience for any of us that want a career in this field. There are only 26 students enrolled in Pitt’s HIM program and over 20 of them would like to go – we want as many of us there, as possible, especially since one of our professors, Dr. Valerie Watzlaf is the president elect of AHIMA!
We need your help to further our careers and gain more knowledge about the Health Information Management field. Your generous donations will contribute to the expensive travel, registration fees, housing accommodations, and other expenses that come with attending the conference. All contributions, regardless of size, will play an important role in helping us to achieve our goal. Any funds raised over the cost of attending the 2018 AHIMA Convention will be used to support HIM student attendance in future years.
