The Pitt News has been the University of Pittsburgh’s award-winning daily student newspaper since 1910. The newspaper publishes daily during the fall and spring semesters, and weekly during the summer, with 10,000 copies distributed to campus newsstands. The paper has won prestigious awards from the Associated College Press (widely considered to be the “Pulitzer Prizes” of college journalism), Columbia Scholastic Press Association, College Media Business & Advertising Managers and the Keystone Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association.
Funded through advertising revenue, The Pitt News employs more than 200 students who sell ads, design the newspaper, write opinions and cover news, culture and sports. At The Pitt News, we strive to promote discourse on campus and inform the Pitt student body about issues affecting college students at the University and across the country.
Our staff has gone on to work at the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, New York Daily News, South China Morning Post, CNN, Vanity Fair, CNBC, CBS Sports, Time Magazine, National Geographic, Bloomberg News, Hearst Magazines, Men’s Health, Pittsburgh Post- Gazette, Pittsburgh Business-Times, 
Tribune-Review, PublicSource and numerous other outlets.
As a result of COVID-19, The Pitt News lost tens of thousands of dollars in advertising revenue. This loss is detrimental to our paper as 90% of our funding comes from advertising revenue alone and as a result of the shut down, we lost that funding. We are asking for your support to raise funds to help cover our operating costs that help us produce our award-winning paper. Our operating costs include things such as student salaries, print and delivery of our paper, cameras and computers to produce the paper and numerous educational training for our students.
There are many ways you can help The Pitt News be successful. These include, but are not limited to, donating to our crowdfunding page, spreading the word by sharing our link and reading and sharing our articles. We hope you are able to help us continue to provide the award winning level of journalism our paper has always provided. As always, thank you for your support!
