Pitt Society of Women Engineers 2021

Who we are:

The University of Pittsburgh’s Chapter of Society of Women Engineers is a student group affiliate of the international organization, Society of Women of Engineers. Our mission is to inspire and empower women engineers at the University of Pittsburgh, and to shape all members into the engineers and leaders they aspire to be. As a University Chapter of societal SWE, we embrace SWE’s core values, which are integrity, trust, inclusive environment, mutual support, and professional intelligence. Our club stands by four pillars, namely professional development, outreach, mentorship, and social, and it is essential that we demonstrate the importance of diversity.

Professional development: Through our professional development events, our members learn more about the professional field and gain essential skills in networking, resume building, interviewing, and more.

Outreach: By leading numerous outreach events, we aim to expand our passion for the engineering field to the younger community members and teach them more about the field.

Mentorship: Through our mentorship program, we aim to create a welcoming community for our members and incoming students. We strive to form strong relationships between our members, thus creating a network for everyone to learn and grow from each other.

Mission:

A key aspect of giving our members the opportunity to grow professionally are the conferences we participate in. Typically, we attend one SWE local and one SWE global conference per year. The global conferences are among the world’s largest conferences and career fairs for women engineers, serving as one of the most exciting opportunities presented to our members. We want to bring as many of our members as we can to these conferences, so we need your help to do so! Each donation lowers the cost of registration for each member, which encourages participation!

How your gift will be used:

We are estimating that $250 would cover the entire cost of the trip for one person. Additionally, $150 would cover the cost of a room for four people for the entire trip, $100 would pay for one registration, and $50 would pay for gas for one of the cars driving to the conference. $30 would cover tickets to an awards ceremony and keynote speaker event for one girl. Lastly, $10 will help cover the cost of some snacks and meals for the trip!

We aim to fully or partially fund the trip to WELocal for at least 15-20 students. The conference is a great opportunity for our members to network, get inspired by women in engineering, and learn about what’s going on in the field of engineering. With your support, hopefully we can lower the cost of the trip to encourage more students to participate! Any funds raised that exceed the cost of the conference will go towards future conferences or general operating costs.

You can stay up to date with Pitt SWE by following us on Instagram (@pittswe1970) or Facebook (Pitt Society of Women Engineers). Feel free to reach out to pittswe@gmail.com as well! Additionally, we have a yearly newsletter that will describe what we’ve been doing and how the conference went.

Anything you can contribute is greatly appreciated by us. Thank you for your support!
