Celebrating Kevin Kearns

In honor of his retirement from GSPIA, we are hosting a campaign to create the Kevin Kearns Endowed Student Resource Fund. The fund will celebrate Professor Kearns and his impact on GSPIA, the University of Pittsburgh and the larger Pittsburgh community by supporting students studying, researching and learning about responsible leadership.

Since 1987, Professor Kearns has taught countless students, mentored the next generation of leaders and helped shape the field of public and nonprofit management. He was the founding Director of the Johnson Institute for Responsible Leadership and the Frances Hesselbein Leadership Forum, two programs that promote ethical leadership in public and nonprofit institutions. Dr. Kearns has authored three books with major publishers and dozens of peer-reviewed articles in leading research journals on strategic management, nonprofit governance, public sector leadership, nonprofit revenue strategies, administrative ethics and accountability, and general management. Dr. Kearns has received numerous awards for the quality of his teaching, most recently the 2021 Leslie A. Whittington Excellence in Teaching Award from the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA).

Help us honor his legacy at GSPIA by making a gift to this effort. We hope to reach our goal of $25,000 to create the endowed fund. Any amount raised in excess of our goal will support the ongoing programming and student focused initiatives led by the Johnson Institute for Responsible Leadership. Should we not reach our goal for the named fund, we will use all money raised to support students through a current use fund that will be directly awarded to students as they seek professional development opportunities to become stronger leaders during their graduate studies.
