Although this project has concluded, if you would still like to make a donation to support the School of Pharmacy, you may always do so here.
Join us in celebrating Dr. Randy Smith’s retirement from Pitt Pharmacy by embracing the spirit of “yes!” and making a gift today. During his time at Pitt Pharmacy, Dr. Smith was known for encouraging students and faculty to think outside the box and always made resources readily available. All support raised from this campaign will assist the school to continue honoring Dr. Smith’s legacy of “yes!” and advocacy for ingenuity.
Dr. Smith began collaborating on research with the School of Pharmacy in 1981. He served as adjunct graduate faculty until his official appointment as Associate Dean for Research in 2000, and Senior Associate Dean in 2002. During his 23 years of service to Pitt Pharmacy, Dr. Smith changed pharmacy education by creating the Pharmacy Innovation Laboratory, Pharmacotherapy Scholars ARCO, and his current issues in pharmacy seminar served as inspiration of the CLIP center. He also led the creation of key student recruitment programs including the RxTalent Team, RxAmbassador’s, and the PIER program. He partnered with faculty to connect and assist in strategic planning with the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association, encouraging collaboration between universities and engaging pharmacy students. The PPA created and awarded Dr. Smith with the first Mortar and Pestel Award in 2006 in recognition of his contributions to the field of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences.
In honor of Dr. Smith, Pitt Pharmacy has established the "Dr. Randy Smith YES! Fund," which will be awarded to students and faculty seeking professional development opportunities to become strong leaders and innovators. Please consider helping us honor Dr. Smith's legacy of "yes!" with a gift today!
“In all I do, I have listened to our students and engaged learners at all levels in all of our projects to harness their creativity and energy while giving them the real-life experiences in leadership, innovation and excellence.” –Dr. Randy Smith
