Meet Carrie Woods

Carrie Woods joined the University of Pittsburgh in 1980 and has a 43-year history with the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business. She has served as the Assistant Director of the highly regarded PhD Program, as well as an advisor to graduate business students. Woods’ passion has been in shepherding students through the process of achieving a PhD and developing life-long relationships with them as alumni. She was an early participant in the PhD Project in 1995 and an early member of DocNet Business Schools (a consortium within the AACSB). Woods’ charity work over the years has included the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, the American Red Cross, and the Katz Committee for United Way. This spring, Carrie was presented with the H.J. Zoffer Medal for Meritorious Service Award which recognizes individuals whose efforts in the recent past have gone above and beyond the call of duty and whose contributions have had a positive impact on Pitt Business and/or the University.

"Your commitment to finding the best solutions for each student’s individual circumstances has been truly amazing."

~Peggy Liu, Professor of Business Administration

Carrie has devoted over 30 years of her life to the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business' PhD program. Few individuals have had the impact that Carrie has on a program, not to mention the countless lives she has touched and the lifelong friendships she has established. Thanks in no small part to Carrie, Katz’s PhD Program ranks among the top 10 most prestigious nationally in a study of all PhD degree-granting institutions in the US by Nature. This “Prestige” status is based on Katz’s ability to place our PhD graduates at other prestigious universities. Please help us in honoring Carrie by making a gift today.
