We Did It!

December 23, 2015

Hello everyone and Happy Holidays!

We would like to extend a very big thank you to all that you who donated and spread the word about our fundraiser.  We are happy to announce that we raised 141% of our initial goal of $5,000!  All together we raised just over $7,000!  We cannot express how humbled we are by your support.  With your help, we have taken a big step towards establishing this fund as an endowment which will support our military and veteran students at the University of Pittsburgh!

We look forward to continuing this fundraiser next year and work towards reaching our goal of $100,000.

On behalf of the military and veteran students at the University of Pittsburgh, the staff of the Office of Veterans Services, and the Pitt community, we would like to extend a very big thank you and a wish for a very happy holiday season for all of you!

We would also like to invite all of you to stay in touch with the Office of Veterans Services through our web site: www.veterans.pitt.edu, where you can  sign up for our monthly newsletter and follow us on social media.

With gratitude,

The Office of Veterans Services, University of Pittsburgh

We've reached 75%!

December 04, 2015

We are happy to announce that we have reached 75% of our new goal of $8,000! Thank you so much to all of you who have donated to this great cause. As we move into the holiday season, we hope that we can count on your continued support in helping to spread the word about this great fundraiser! And remember to let your friends, families, and colleagues know that 100% of their donations go straight to the endowment and awards from the fund are all given directly to the veteran student.

Your contributions to this fund are greatly appreciated and directly assist students like Mr. Jeff Dryden, a Marine Corps veteran, who received the scholarship in spring 2014 and graduated with a Masters in Social Work in December 2014. Jeff now assists other veterans in an addiction rehabilitation counseling center with the VA.  Jeff had the following to say about receiving the gift:

"All I can truly say is that it is nothing short of life changing  for us.  I was very seriously contemplating having to drop out of school and go in a different direction all together to support my family, but with your help I have gotten a second wind now and can continue on."

Please help us in the final push to reach our goal by continuing to share this fundraiser with others! Thank you for all that you do!

We've Met Our Goal?!

November 17, 2015

On behalf of our veteran community at the University of Pittsburgh, we would like to thank all who have generously donated to help support of students! It is because of your donations that we have been able to reach our goal of $5,000 within the first five days of starting this campaign.

With 35 days still remaining on our campaign, we have decided to raise our campaign goal to $8,000 because of the support we’ve received in just a short time. Your donations directly support our student veterans, allow them to stay in school and assist with paying for books, supplies, transportation, as well as offset some of their tuition expense not covered by the GI Bill.

We are excited to launch this new phase of our campaign and are confident, with your generous support, we can meet our new $8,000 goal and take a significant step towards establishing this endowment to support our veteran students!

Please continue to share this campaign with your friends, family, and coworkers as we move towards our new goal! Your generosity will support veteran students like Casey Enos, a fall 2014 recipient of the Wounded Warrior and Veterans Education Assistance Fund. Casey was a Staff Sergeant in the US Army, serving as an infantry squad leader, and is now pursuing a Philosophy degree at Pitt. Your donations will help us support more students just like Casey!

Happy Veterans Day!

November 11, 2015

Wow!  Not even one day in and we are almost at 50%!  Thank you so much to all of you who have donated to this great cause! Today, we would like to introduce you to Mr. Frank Bullock, a fall 2015 recipient of a scholarship from the Wounded Warrior and Veterans Education Assistance Fund.  Through your support, we will be able to continue to award scholarships to student veterans just like Frank.

Frank is a retired Coast Guard officer (was prior enlisted), who  moved to Pittsburgh last year and is pursuing a Public Service major at Pitt.  Frank is also an active member of our student veteran group, the Pitt Vets.

Thank you to all who have donated!  Please continue to share and we will meet our goal in no time!
